My Chiropractic Story - Tina M. Gottlieb, D.C.
When I was 13, after months of complaining about neck and back pain, my
parents took me to an orthopedic doctor. We were told that I had a small
scoliosis, but there was nothing he could do for me. That is when I turned to
chiropractic. I found relief for my pain with traditional chiropractic care,
but it never prevented the pain from returning.
I suffered my first migraine headache when I was 15. I had long suffered
with recurring tension headaches, but this migraine was quite different.
I was in bed for over two weeks, taking over-the-counter pain relievers every
few hours with little relief. My second migraine occurred four years later,
during finals in college. My primary physician prescribed medication that he
said would make the pain go away with one pill. Over a week later, pills gone,
he sent me to a neurologist who specialized in dealing with migraine headaches.
I was sent home with the same prescription and remained in bed for another
week. From that point on, my migraines occurred more frequently. When
I was in my first semester at Palmer College, my migraines began to spin
out of control. Neither the chiropractic care nor the medications were doing
much good. When I didn't have a migraine, I was so exhausted, it was
almost impossible to study.
I was beginning to wonder how I would ever complete Chiropractic College,
or function normally. Fortunately, a friend of mine told me about the specific
upper cervical chiropractic care, which she had begun to receive. I was
skeptical that this care could help more than anything else had, but I felt
I had nothing to lose. When I received the first adjustment, I had been
suffering with a migraine for two weeks. Within one minute of the
adjustment, I felt a rush of warmth on one side of my face. By that evening,
the migraine was gone. I remember my mother calling me that evening to
see how it went. I told her I didn't know what they did, or why it worked, but
I was going to find out! A few months later, after I had been home for
two weeks on summer break, my mom asked me why I hadn't been
complaining of the headaches or neck pain that she was so accustomed
to hearing about. I told her it was because I didn't have them anymore.
The specific care not only stopped my headaches, but it prevented their
return. I was feeling better than I ever had before. I no longer felt constantly
exhausted; I could think clearly, and also had no neck or back pain. As I
continued through school, I studied about how and why those adjustments
worked so well. I still receive regular upper cervical adjustments,
although they are not necessary as often. My mother, father, sister, and husband
have benefited from upper cervical care as well.
